The 2009 Spring/Summer season is just around the corner!!!
The Hawks are preparing to begin their 7th summer season as a franchise (11th season including fall ball). The 2008 season ended in dissapointment as the Hawks were upset in the first round of the playoffs. Coach Pete Magnani is hoping for better fortune this year. "The Hawks are contenders every year. Each year we make the playoffs and we've been to the series twice, but that championship trophy has eluded us. This is our year." says Coach Magnani during an intense spring training workout.
The core of the Hawks team is still there. Over the years, we have picked up some exceptional players, but the original few are still in place.
The Hawks front office is rumored to be a week or two away from securing a new ballbark, the South River Varsity Field. A switch to this ballpark will mean a nicer field with a more reliable grounds crew along with less expensive tickets for the fans in the field box section.
Farewell to David Grandmaison:
Not only did the Hawks get upset in the 2007 playoffs, they also lost veteran David Grandmaison to retirement. Grandmaison played five seasons with the Hawks and was a great teammate. David brought power to the plate, a great glove in left field, and priceless advise to the new players coming up. But most of all, Grandmaison brought the beer. He will be sorely missed.
